For pianists

Did you study hard to play the Chopin-etudes backward in 24 keys and do you still think 'I’m a minor pianist' or are you more tense then you wish? Or would you want to play more expressive without managing to do so? Sometimes, it’s worth trying to put the piano aside for a moment : ) and switch your attention to your body and thoughts.

How do you sit at the piano?

I don’t mean the height of your chair or how far you are from the keys, but the way your body feels and the thoughts you’ve in your head while playing.

How you think about yourself and the way you feel, is expressed in your porture and movement, in either a helping or a disturbing way. If you deal with bodily tension or insecure thoughts, you may explore what it is that blocks you and how you make your musical energy move again. Beside talking, we pay attention to breaving, emotions and posture and expressive movement. Your body is your instrument!

I work as a bodily-oriented psychotherapist and I studied classical piano here in Utrecht. What I like most of playing is feeling the way my musical energy finds its way through my body. Doing my study Integrated Psychotherapy helped me as a pianist too. I'm looking forward to explore these two expertises together with you!
